about

Echo the Dusk was recorded at home in the spring of 2020. It’s the second single from the forthcoming Victory Kicks album Free the Night, the band's 7th full length release, due out in late 2021. The song is about the ending of a relationship during lockdown and is a remote collaboration between Victory Kicks songwriter and guitarist John Sibley and London based indie-folk songwriter, Young Flood guitarist and label-mate Sam Beard. It was recorded over several weeks during lockdown, with mixes of the song being exchanged online.

lyrics

In a building downtown
Up go the lights
They get to look at you now
I'm on a one way ride
Out of the city tonight

I'll be on a runaway train
Back from the battle
To the mess that I made
Out to some faraway plain
Where only the static remains

And it echoes the dusk
God the mess that we're in
It echoes the dusk
I've got to know

Walking a suburban street
Towards the corner and the place where we'd meet
It seemed a faraway time
Somewhere in the back of my mind
It was just another day in the neighbourhood
But the fences and the doors and the walls all shook
I'm on a runaway train
Back from the battle again

And it echoes the dusk
God the mess that we're in
It echoes the dusk
God the mess that we're in
It echoes the dusk

I've got to know
Did it get a bit of your soul?
I've got to know
Did it get a bit of your soul?
